List Of Ongoing Scholarships For Nigerian Students & How To Apply

There are a list of scholarship programs around the world today which you are likely to be interested in.

They are just excellent schemes which are self-funding and educative with a lot of post-study opportunities. I’ll show a handful of them in this article and how to apply.

1. PTDF Undergraduate Scholarship 2016/2017

The Petroleum Technolgy Development Fund (PTDF) is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for its MSc, PhD and Undergraduate scholarship schemes.

PTDF is an arm of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources whose objective is to provide an avenue for training Nigerians in petroleum technology and manpower.

Qualification/Basic Requirements For Application

  1. Applicant must be a Nigerian.
  2. Possess 5 credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO including English Language and Mathematics
  3. Must have concluded the 1st year of  their study in any of the PTDF upgraded Federal Universities.
  4. Possess a minimum CGPA of 3.0  on scale of 5 or 4.5 on a scale of 7 in their 1st Year.
  5. Must scan and attach a copy of their  admission letter
  6. For students admitted into the University through Direct Entry i.e. 200 level, the following are required:

                   ◊ Must have a minimum of Upper Credit at the Diploma level

                   ◊ Minimum of 10 points in interim Joint Matriculation Board (I.J.M.B) examination.

                   ◊ Minimum of 8 points at the Advanced Level General Certificate of Education (G.C.E).

2. Federal Scholarship Board Nigeria (Bilateral Educational Agreement) 2016/2017

The Federal Scholarship Board is inviting intersted and qualified Nigerians for 2016/2017 Nomination Interview for Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Awards.

The Federal Scholarship Board is an arm of the Federal Ministry of Education, Nigeria and they are involved in annual scholarship scheme in Nigeria.

Qualification/Basic Requirements For Application

 For Undergraduate Scholarship:

  1. Must be a registered FULL TIME undergraduate in a recognized Nigerian University.
  2. Must possess a minimum qualification of Five (5) Distinctions (As & Bs) in the Senior Secondary School Certificate, SSCE, only in the subjects relevant to their fields of study including English Language and Mathematics.
  3. Certificates should not be more than Two (2) years old (2014 & 2015).
  4. Must be within the age limit of 18 to 20 years.

For Postgraduate Scholarship:

  1. Must hold a First Degree with at least 2nd Class Upper Division.
  2. Applicants who are previous recipients of Foreign Awards must have completed at least two (2) years post qualification or employment practice in Nigeria.
  3. Must have completed N.Y.S.C.
  4. Age limit is 35 years for Masters and 40 years for Ph.D.

3. NNPC/Shell Scholarship Scheme 2016/2017

NNPC and Shell Companies are hereby inviting interested and qualified undergraduates of Nigerian Universities to NNPC/Shell 2016/2017 Scholarship Award.

The National University Scholarship Award purpose is to promote academic excellence and train Nigerian youths.

Qualification/Basic Requirements For Application

  1. Must be a registered FULL TIME undergraduate in a recognized Nigerian University.
  2. Must be a 100 or 200 level student at the time of application. 300 level students are not eligible.
  3. Possess 5 credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO including English Language and Mathematics
  4. Applicants must have scored 200 and above in UTME.
  5. Must have not less than 2.50 CGPA of 5-point scale, or equivalent need not apply.
  6. Present proof of Admission letter from the University and Matriculation Number.
  7. Direct entry students must show proof of A-level or Equivalent Certificate.
Note: Current beneficiaries of similar awards from other International Oil Companies (IOCs) need not apply.

4. DAAD Scholarship Scheme 2016/2017

Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) is a German-based scholarship program offered by German Academic Exchange Service to foreign students.

The aim of DAAD is to fund and support foreign students, graduates, doctoral students, and young and early-stage researchers whose previous research and academic achievements place them at least in the top third of their age group.

Qualification/Basic Requirements For Application

1. It must not be more than 6 years that applicants obtained their last degree.

For doctorate degree students, it’s not more than 3 years into the study.

For Postdocs, it’s not more than 2 years after gaining the award/degree.

2. Age limit for applicants is 18 and above.

3. Candidates have at least two years’ professional experience.

4. Candidates can prove their motivation is development-related and be expected to take on social responsibility and initiate and support processes of change in their personal and professional environment after their training/scholarship.
