EFCC Storms Abakaliki: Gov. Dave Umahi Under Mess Again

Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. Dave Umahi is in a big mess now as EFCC storms Abakaliki city and other parts of State seizing property belonging to the governor.

We learnt that the anti-crime commission from Enugu zonal office entered Abakaliki yesterday’s afternoon placing their usual “EFCC Under Investigation” sign at the entrances of ‘Osborn La Palm Hotel’ and ‘Brass Filling Station.’

‘Osborn La Palm Hotel’ located at Mile 50, Abakaliki and ‘Brass Filling Station located along Ogoja and Afikpo roads’ are all establishments belonging to the executive governor, Chief Engr. Dave Umahi.

The ‘EFCC Under Investigation’ sign signifies temporary shut down of activity by an organisation or body suspected for crime by the commission.

Meanwhile, usual activities were still ongoing within the premises of ‘Osborn La Palm’ and ‘Brass Filling Station’.

However, a top official of the government of Ebonyi State who did not want to be mentioned, denied the sealing of the property.

He said, “We hosted a wedding reception here on Sunday and since then the hotel has been locked up.”

“Yes, there is an EFCC sticker on the properties. It is just an under investigation sticker.

It is not as if the properties were sealed. They are still functioning. The truth is that they have been there for long. There is nothing new there.”

However, there are no clear reasons for this action yet but from our investigation, it might be connected with the said N400 million arms deal the former president, Goodluck Jonathan gave to gov. Dave Umahi during the 2015 presidential election.

The money was said to be diverted by the governor.

It can be recalled that three suspects were arrested in August, this year including gov. Umahi’s younger brother, Austin Umahi over the same N400 million fund embezzlement connected to the 2015 presidential campaign of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Also arrested in the August investigation are Chinyere Egwuche and Marbel Dikibo, signatories to Brass Engineering Company and Osborn La Palm’s account.

The funds were said to be moved into Brass Engineering & Construction Nigeria Limited and Osborn La-Palm Royal Resort accounts in N100 and N300 million respectively by Maxwell Umahi.

The funds were withdrew by Egwuche, one of the suspects, and used to further finance the construction of Osborn La-Palm Hotels in Abakaliki, Uburu and Port Harcourt and also to Umahi Faith Foundation, Abakaliki.

A similar situation was also seen in Abakaliki along Azugwu Road at the entrance of the house of the former governor, Martin Elechi’s son whose probing started since early this year.
